According to the British Phonographic Industry both album and singles sales are up for the twelve month up to the end of September.  Album sales success were attributed, in part, to releases from artists like The Streets, a hip hop act, and singles did well due to legal digital downloads.  The top ten albums for the period include the Black Eyes Peas’ Elephunk and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Greatest Hits (early rap/rock/funk hybrids).

In related news, downloads of digital singles will be included in the UK’s top 40 singles chart starting sometime in 2005.
