Video Game Awards 2004

Spike TV’s Video Game Awards 2004 will air live tonight with a 20 second delay. Snoop Dogg will host and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is one of the leaders in nominations for various categories.

Currently the VGA website has a popup window with the option of “tagging” a wall with your choice of brushstroke and color.

DVD Sales Boosting Bottom Line

Though DVD sales have greatly improved the bottom line for both film and television productions, equitable residuals for bit players are still unresolved. Bootleggers Undermining Censorship

In Cuba, a thriving underground trade in bootlegged versions of censored films and music is a mixed blessing for artists who want their work known yet still wish to get paid. For example,
“hip-hop group Clan 537′s “Quién Tiró la Tiza?” (“Who Threw the Chalk?”) was never released domestically, but it still became a hit with young Cubans. “You can ask any young Cuban if they know that disc,” said Darsi Fernández Maceira, the representative in Cuba of the Sociedad General de Autores y Editores, a management group that defends the intellectual property of its 66,000 member artists worldwide. “They do. The demo went through the whole country.”"

John Legend on Kanye West’s GOOD

Singer/pianist John Legend is the first artist signed to Kanye West’s new Sony imprint GOOD (Getting Out Our Dreams). In addition to working on West’s College Dropout, Legend has played piano and sung backup for such artists as Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, Janet Jackson and Britney Spears. He describes his work as having a “hip-hop-meets-soul-meets-gospel vibe.”

Kora Awards for African Music

The Kora Awards for African musicians on the continent and in diaspora included a Best African Group Award shared by Nigerian hip hop/R&B group JJC & 419 Squad and Afro-pop trio Malaika. Best Video honors were also split and included Reggie Rockstone’s video Ah.
