Khujo on MCing with a Prosthetic

The Lumberjacks' Khujo discusses life with a prosthetic. I noticed that early print ad versions of the album cover clearly included Khujo's prosthetic but in the current version the image has closed in. Too bad, seeing a pants leg rolled up to reveal a prosthetic is hard to forget.

Available from Amazon:
Goodie Mob Presents Lumberjacks - Livin' Life Like Lumberjacks.

De La Soul's Educational Tour

De La Soul is planning a low admission college tour in March called the Past, the Present, the Future with related hip hop history symposiums. The tour is sponsored by Toyota and special guests will include A Tribe Called Quest's Phife Dawg, Scarface, Raphael Saadiq and Dwele.

Hip Hop and the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

Hip hop hoops players in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game include Nelly, Ice Cube and Jermaine Dupri.

Many events during the NBA All-Star weekend will feature rap and RnB celebrities, including a series of concerts at the Fillmore Auditorium beginning with Lil Jon tonight, Public Enemy and the Legends of Hip Hop Tour on Saturday and Ludacris on Sunday.

With the NBA coming to town, African-American business folks look forward to the networking possibilities. Nevertheless, many in Denver remember the disappointment caused by the last minute cancellation of Russell Simmons' Hip-Hop Festival and Summit, an event expected to help local businesses and hip hop artists.

Combining business and pleasure, DJ Clinton Spark will be spinning in Denver during All-Star Game festivities. He has an album from Koch Records due in March called Maybe You Been Brainwashed. The Denver Nuggets' DJ Bedz is also leveraging his NBA connections for All-Star Game related action.

Hood Official, a hip hop band made up of Berklee Music students from the school's Jazz Hip-Hop ensemble, will perform at the pregame concert, Jam Session.

The Denver Post takes an extended look at the relationship of rap music and the NBA plus an interview with Lil Jon.

Suge Knight: House Arrest, Restraining Order

On Tuesday, apparently while I was sleeping on the job, Suge Knight got out of jail and was put on house arrest for the remaining 2 1/2 months of his parole. He was released without bracelets and told to go home and wait for them. He has to stay at home from 8 pm to 6 am and will be randomly drug tested.

Croo ked I has won a temporary restraining order on Knight who he claims has been threatening other labels that expressed interest in working with Crooked I after the artist left Tha Row. Reportedly Crooked I has offered to turn over all the work he recor ded there just to be left alone.

How hungry must an artist be to still sign with Tha Row at this point in time, after seeing how many of the artists end up wanting to leave?

Update: More from Crooked I.

Inspiration: Donald Trump vs. Lance Armstrong

You can keep Donald Trump as long as I get Lance Armstrong.

Financial Blogs: ThinkBlog, Trader Mike

Blogs are getting big in the business world but getting an article in the NY Times about your company's blog is an especially nice way to start. ThinkBlog is an experiment by Think Equity Partners who view the blog as an "open source" approach to research and hope to attract folks interested in growth investing.

I'd seen the name Trader Mike around hip hop blogging circles but only after a period of not following the scene, so it was a fun surprise to find out he was doing a technical analysis blog. I love that stuff. I know just enough to convince myself that I get the concepts but not enough to get past the part where it still seems kind of magical.
