Advice for Artists and for Startups

Jon Anderson relates some of the insights shared at the 1st Annual Windy City Hip-Hop and R&B Music Industry Seminar, including some tough love:

‘You just blew your deal,’ Dallas shouted at one rapper who slunk off the stage after his microphone died.  ‘You never, ever, put your mike down!’ Dallas went on. ‘No matter what happens, stand up! Maintain!’

24 Hour Laundry, a blog intended to inform folks about jobs at 24HL, a tech company not a laundry company, has some useful advice for startups based on their own experiences.  It’s short and one section includes advice that sounds like what one sometimes hears about some of the more successful hip hop businesses:

* Meritocracy
* Evaluate and reward managers based on development of people
* Top down reassignments of high achievers
