Jerry Barrow, former Deputy Editor for The Source, is the new Editor-In-Chief at Scratch Magazine. Scratch Magazine is owned by Harris Publications which also owns King, XXL, Combat Handguns and Country Collectibles.
By the way, beatmasters have until June 15th to enter their beats in Scratch Magazine’s I Scratch Mecca Contest.
John Rollins, the former publisher of Vibe, left to found Tracks magazine, a music mag focused on the baby boomer demographic. Now that he’s settled at Elle as publisher, he discusses what went wrong at Tracks, which is officially on hiatus. You know I just saw the last issue on the newstands yesterday. I think I’m in their demographic but I didn’t pick it up. Sorry, John.
The former Managing Editor of XXL, Zena Tsarfin, is now the new Managing Editor of CRACKED Magazine, a humor magazine.
Not to stir up controversy, I can do that on my own, but I checked out the current issue of XXL and Hashim Warren’s claims that XXL editor Elliott Wilson is tripping on his blogged critique seems at least partly correct. However, a search on Google reveals that all sorts of people misspell the brother’s name and that must be pretty annoying.
In terms of anything Hashim specific, I should point out that talking about bloggers just encourages us. But what I find more important about this mini-controversy is that it’s yet another example of the fact that bloggers’ power often comes more from the influential folks who read us, like Elliott Wilson, than the actual size of our readership.
