Do you remember the announcement that Def Jam was starting a Latino oriented label Roc La Familia and signing Aztek Escobar which was followed by some low profile discussion that Aztek was a fake? Have you noticed that the only thing you can find on the Internet about that topic is from this summer, when the announcement was made?
There’s nothing new at AztekEscobar.com which is the official site linked to from Roc-A-Fella and the Universal Music Group in their news announcements. But someone is signing in at Aztek Escobar’s Myspace site, folks are still getting added to his friends list and there’s lots of interest in what Aztek might be up to though I can’t find any news from Aztek on there.
As far as I can tell, Aztek’s a no show as is Roc La Familia, which will be a big disappointment to everybody that got really excited about the news. I’m dropping him a line via a friend’s Myspace account and will post if I come up with anything interesting.
who cares if his stories are true or not, it entertainment and 90% of the rappers make things up as they go! at least he got a deal that your jelous of! I think he has style thats very diffrent and refreshing! besides he is a latino in a black mans game so big ups to him, im buying a copy of his cd! if you cant get a deal then you suck, period!
Sure, there’s lots of made up stuff in showbiz but, generally speaking, folks seem to want the major parts of backstories to be more or less true. My issue isn’t with Escobar as a musician and I certainly would like to see more Latino artists do well.
But making up your background and then standing on it to demonstrate your integrity is just difficult for me to accept. And the extended delay and lack of anything official from Def Jam or Roc La Familia when their first signee is under attack looks really bad in a business sense.

I’ve made it clear that I’m all for Latino Rap getting big as fuck. If you actually read my blog you’d know that. Since you won’t pay attention, I don’t want to listen to you anymore.
Communication is a two way street and some of you are treating it like some back alley.
Obviously this doesn’t go out to those who actually read the conversation and then participate intelligently. And just in case you get that statement twisted, I don’t have any problem with thuggish language and mispelling. It’s the not listening to others that pisses me off.
