Blogs On Counterfeit Fashions, Bootlegs & Graphic Design Thievery
As with my previous post on youth blog Ypulse, the following two blogs don't really talk much about hip hop marketing per se but have a lot of relevance for those interested in related topics.
I've been following Counterfeit Chic written by law school professor Susan Scafidi, author of Who Owns Culture?: Appropriation And Authenticity In American Law.
It's a nice look at counterfeiting, knockoffs and design ripoffs in the fashion industry plus related areas. One of the nice things about such a blog is that one can present visual evidence that trumps almost any verbal argument, for example, the ripoff of School of Hard Knocks by Target.
Scafidi also linked to an article last month about violent art on t-shirts that ProHipHop readers may find especially relevant.
I actually wrote this post because Wooster Collective just directed me to You Thought We Wouldn't Notice, a blog that traces graphic and fashion ripoffs of street art.
Again, the juxtaposed graphics provide the argumentation, plus, commentary by many of the street artists themselves is included in the posts.
Both Counterfeit Chic and You Thought We Wouldn't Notice are well worth checking out for those with interests in knockoffs, bootlegs and ripoffs in fashion and graphic design or who just find the photographic evidence of brazen design theft fun to check out.
