Mims Takes No. 1, Capitol’s 1st Since 1992

Huey – Pop, Lock & Drop It

You know the bubbly’s popping at Capitol Records with their first no. 1 single since 1992, Mims’ This Is Why I’m Hot takes the top spot on the Hot 100 singles chart with a 32 to 1 jump, the third largest ever on the Hot 100.

Mims also takes no. 1 on the Hot Digital Songs chart and enters a 4th week on top of the Hot Ringmasters chart.

Am I wrong or is this the second single by a New Yorker, after Webstar’s Chicken Noodle Soup, to cop Southern simplicity and achieve success?  And doesn’t it look like we’re going to see many more such tunes to come from all over the nation, many featuring a dance step?  For example, here comes Huey from St. Looey with a dance contest!

  1. Much to the detriment of urban music in general, we’ll be in for another summer of snap music and repetitive droning.
I’m in the process of arranging a symposium on the lack of creativity in hip-hop today. I’ll keep you all posted on my progress, as I am to have it in late summer.
