As you can see in the previous post, I’m not sure what to do about this job board thing. The short version is that the first effort, which wasn’t making me any money and was unlikely to anytime soon but required more ongoing maintenance, had a response that I can already tell will far surpass my other options.
We were getting decent but in no way dramatic click through rates on the jobs but what impressed me was that a high proportion of those followed through and applied for the jobs with a roughly even split between lower level jobs & internships and upper level positions. This was the one solution in which I went in and picked out the individual jobs myself but those jobs aren’t monetized on my end.
So if you checked that out and want more, I could approach it the way I would a regular feature item and keep the quality selection going, adjusted to the response of users.
Any comments? I’d greatly appreciate them.

I like the job board just the way it is personally. When I visit the job board, which I do frequently, I type in the search engine ‘san diego’ to find the jobs in san diego. I guess having them listed alphabetically by city might help. Another site I visit often for jobs and something that you might consider analyzing is craigslist, if you haven’t. Okay well hope this helps. Love your website…

wait a minute I posted prematurely, I didn’t even know you changed it within the past few days, since I’m new to prohiphop I assumed the change was before my time. As your site continues to grow Its a good idea to distribute responsibility, the down side to using indeed is that from now on, I used to go to your site directly for the jobs, which I assumed were your direct connections. Now, I’m given the option of skipping your site and logging in to indeed directly adn typing music, business and selecting san diego as a city, without visiting your site. Therefore you lose clicks. This is how I got into google personally. I used to use yahoo but then when I saw the ‘powered by google’ sign and I started using google, the source, and eventually gave up yahoo. If your focus is to have a strong web following, the best thing to do, although harder to manage is to return to how it used to be.
You seemed confident that in the long run you’d be making money with the old method, I don’t know your financial situation but perhaps you should wait it out. Either way, I’m personally gonna keep coming back for the news but there are other sites out there for that as well… the phh job board was a differentiation strategy, whereas anyone can link to indeed. God bless.
You make some great points. To be honest, I think ProHipHop is pretty well differentiated. Whether or not doing the job board the way I was at first would build substantial additional reader loyalty is hard to say but that’s why I would keep doing it if I did.
I’m also having to reevaluate everything I’m doing in light of what I hope are upcoming major shifts in my daily reality. If all goes as planned, there will be a stripping down before the next stage of activity throughout the ProHipHop network.
Thanks again for your thoughtful response.
Actually, you’ve got me thinking and I’ve hit on at least one more possible solution. More soon.
Glad I could help
