What Black Men Think: Taalam Acey’s Market for Ni$$as

Taalam Acey – Market for Ni$$as

Taalam Acey drops a stunning spoken word piece that ties together business and recent hip hop controversies quite well with the line and theme, "there’s a market for n*ggas."  The video is an excerpt from the documentary What Black Men Think.

What Black Men Think PSA

I can’t really tell from the official website for the documentary
What Black Men Think if it’s out or not but this promo/psa has inspired some discussion.

The trail of digital breadcrumbs led from Oh Word to SOULcrates to Racialicious.

I want to check this out, but it doesn’t seem like it would be a holistic, objective view of black men in general.

I hear what you’re saying but I wonder if any project could encompass something as complex as “black men in general”.
I also got the impression that different promos for the documentary take different perspectives so it may cover more than this one suggests.
But I think the topic of how black men are viewed and who black men actually are is definitely an important one for a lot of different reasons and deserves much more than one look.

I’ve liked Mr. Acey’s work for some time and he’s one of the best poets out there besides Will TheRealOne. But the people who need to hear this the most are not gonna feel him. Poets get no respect in the hood I spend time in. I feel the pain of my n****’s on the street and there are many others like myself that risk our lives by not just preaching to people but by investing real talk time with them and showing them by example how to have happy and fulfilling lives which does not necessarily agree with what people like Talaam speak about.

I watched this movie and have mixed feelings about it. I have written an analysis on it, and would love your feedback: http://cagedlion.squarespace.com/journal/2007/8/19/review-what-are-these-black-men-thinking.html
I think WBMT has both positive and negative aspects.

    I’ll check it out!
