Aesop Rock Promo Video for None Shall Pass Falls Flat

Aesop Rock – None Shall Pass – EPK

Since I’m assuming that really smart creative people were involved in the making of this video, I won’t pull any punches and say it’s almost a total waste of time.  I only watched it all the way through out of a peculiar sense of professional obligation.

It’s not funny but maybe the hardcore fan base will enjoy Aesop Rock in the role of pretentious artist.  There doesn’t seem to be any music from the album and, since Aesop Rock is capable of making not so good albums, let’s just hope it’s a good one.  In the absence of any actual audio snippets, no doubt considered a witty move back at the lab, we can just assume that it will be at least as good as was this skit.  Ha ha.

Calling it an EPK or Electronic Press Kit points to this video’s failings rather than whatever might be its strengths given that a video full of filler dramatic material isn’t designed to make information for the press very accessible.

Aesop Rock, None Shall Pass, Def Jux, Aug. 28.

actually, there are actual audio snippets from the album. 3 to be exact. way to do your research there buddy.

  2. Clyde Smith says:

    Too bad. They sucked.

Too bad you think your opinion is shared by everyone and that you spend time listening to things you think suck.
I’m sure Aesop will be devastated to find out that YOU don’t like it. OH WHAT WILL HE DO… I hope he’ll be ok.
Not everyone can have such great album releases as you Clyde Smith… or wait.. my bad, you seem to be totally unknown with the exception of talking shit about people who do things you can’t.

Just dont ask Aes about the bird dude!!!

  5. Clyde Smith says:

There you go. World’s Fair rolls with the punches and moves back into the positive while the anonymous psycho fans or whoever that person is just make matters worse.
We can’t love everything. We’re all experimenting here. Occasionally somebody has to say something kind of mean.
Check out any footage involving Aesop Rock and El-P and tell me I’m harsher than El-P in my criticisms of his cohorts.
I’ll have to call you a liar at that moment.

Unfortunately, this got silly and I can certainly blame myself. The point of the post got lost, i.e. whether or not this video actually works as a promotional tool, and that’s too bad.
I don’t think it does and certainly anything labeled Electronic Press Kit should not require additional “research” on the part of the press.
That said, let’s just say it was a fun experiment some liked [I assume, nobody said they did] and others [me] didn’t.

  7. Aesop Rock is certainly something haha. Very weird promo but right up my alley at the same time. I actually just wrote a post about him on http://boombaphiphop.com
