On November 6, Roc-A-Fella Records and JAY-Z will release the new album AMERICAN GANGSTER. Separate from the official motion picture soundtrack, this collection of all-new original material is a musical journey and lyrical interpretation of snapshots from the upcoming motion picture American Gangster, which pairs Oscar(R) winners Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. Based on the true story of criminal mastermind Frank Lucas, who came up from the streets of New York in the ’70s, the film is produced by Academy Award(R)-winning producer Brian Grazer and directed and produced by Ridley Scott. It opens on November 2.
The conceptual, full body of work from the new album balances the line between pure entertainment and real life. JAY-Z draws upon past experiences, speaking to the harsh reality of the drug trade still taking place in our nation’s cities. While not glorifying the Frank Lucas story, JAY-Z articulates the lure of a gangster’s life and stands as an example of one who chose to leave those streets behind to go on and become one of the most successful entrepreneurs of our time.
Throughout AMERICAN GANGSTER, JAY-Z brings the audience into a world rich in familial relationships, hustling and the lasting effects of drugs on a community. Through its musical tone, the album complements the story as told in the major motion picture release.

Im thinking about moving my album back some..give the movie some time to breath before i take over the spotlight. One question, who does the public want to see in the album, i cant garuntee that you will see anyone mainly because its really gonna go back to my hay-day (80′s), so the best you can hope for is a cameo or a produced songs, but not a lot of features. 1
i hope he will take back to reasonable doubt status becuase by far that was the best album ever done by Jay. Him spitting gully without outlines of verses dropping then hooks…take it back where it wasn’t about getting it in mainstream standards or radio play, where all you wanted was to get your voice heard, the jazzy beats and bass. Hova has two dope albums…”REASONABLE DOUBT” and “THE BLACK ALBUM” and a lot of really good songs. From the few tracks that I have heard, AMERICAN GANGSTER is in a class by itself.
Oh yeah…For all of you that says Lil Wayne is taking over…GROW UP ! There are a lot of rappers in the game today but not many MC’s (Peace to MOS DEF, TALIB, LUPE, and JAY Z).
Jay did NOT start Kanye. He actually denied him the chance first. But after a while he granted Kanye’s wish of becoming a rapping producer which, I believe, was his best choice to ever have made. Kanye started making beats when he was like 12 years old. Y’all should read his mother’s biography entitled; “Raising Kanye” Now, I’m not pissin’ on Jay, I just don’t think he deserves the whole credit of Ye being brought up. Jay gave him the chance, but he would have made it anyway. Huge respect to Jay for bringing Ye in. And for existing, and not leaving us all with all these other can’t-really-rap-like-Jay-artists.

i think too many people start looking at hip-hop albums completely relating it to the life and lifestyle of rappers and hip-hop itself. if one put aside all of the real life baggage that comes along with hip-hop, we wouldnt be listening to nearly as much hip-hop because it has become too much like sports that people watch. its like keeping track of your favourite players. im sick of hearing people talk about rappers like theyre the “future” or some wack shit like that. its all about good music and fuck what anybody thinks. if its good people will respect it. you can sell albums and not be respected. 50 sure as hell isnt respected anymore (as an example). that said, pump jay-z’s shit on a good stereo and listen to his flow, and then tell me he sucks. get off your little dingy mp3 players.
