Forbes Turns Rumors Into Facts: 50 Cent's Glaceau Take

While you can probably find plenty of outlets that still say that 50 Cent got $400 million from his cut of the sale of Glaceau to Coke, most have moved on to the $100 million figure originally described by Forbes as an "estimated take" and now simply presented as a fact without any support whatsoever at any point.

Forbes never revealed how this figure was estimated or by whom though "Forbes" sometimes takes credit for the estimate.

Is this another rumor turned fact by simply repeating it multiple times in a mainstream media source that's trying to look hip by covering rap?

Or does it not really matter since we're talking about rappers and that's entertainment news?

"Leaked" Nas Album Cover Deluge Begins

Somehow I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of "leaked" album covers for Nas' N*gger.

And that could be a very good thing.

Kenwood Vineyards Lounge to Open w/Vegas 40/40 Club

Kenwood Vineyards is not only sponsoring the New Year's Eve 40/40 Club Grand Opening in Las Vegas but they're also sponsoring a permanent VIP room called the Kenwood Vineyards Lounge.

On the 40/40 Club:

"The new $20 million 40/40 Club Las Vegas is the third location of Jay-Z's renowned upscale sports bar and lounge...The multi-level venue features 85 plasma screen televisions, five bars serving "top-shelf" wines and libations, and leather couch seating for ultimate sports enjoyment, plus a luxurious dining area offering all-American fare with a Latin accent and five VIP rooms -- including the Kenwood Vineyards Lounge -- for private events."

On the 40/40 Club opening event in Vegas:

"A throng of "A-List" celebrities will walk the red carpet in front of fans and the press before heading inside for an evening to include a welcome and ceremonial ribbon-cutting by Jay-Z, dancing to live celebrity DJs and a midnight toast. A one-hour television special, "Live on the Red Carpet at the 40/40 Club Las Vegas Grand Opening," is scheduled to air on "Extra" and "E!"."

On the Kenwood Vineyards Lounge:

"Literally a "club within a club," the intimate Kenwood Vineyards Lounge -- which can accommodate only 70 guests -- blends wine country accents with leather wrap around couches, hardwood floors, wood paneled walls, a sunken living room and an 8-foot pool table. This private space also is equipped with two 65-inch plasma screen televisions, an independent sound system, wireless internet access, Xbox, Playstation, chess boards and a complementary Ms. Pacman arcade game."

"One of the Kenwood Vineyard Lounge's most distinctive amenities is a private outdoor terrace, with views of the famed Las Vegas Strip and the Las Vegas fireworks. Befitting a private, "by reservation only" lounge, VIP servers assigned exclusively to the Kenwood Vineyards Lounge will take care of guests' food and beverage needs. A superb selection of premium Kenwood Vineyards Sonoma County wines will be available in the Kenwood Vineyards Lounge by the glass and by the bottle."

A Note to Survivors of Abuse

While the Chris Stokes/B2K media circus plays out, you'll have to listen to a lot of nonsense from fools who think they know something about the subject or who just want to share their "common sense."  Some of them don't actually mean to be hurtful but I know that doesn't change the effects.

Stay strong and remember that a lot of folks really do care and are on your side.

Yung Joc Skips Arraignment

Yung Joc did not show for his arraignment hearing on gun charges today and is considered a fugitive.  His bail has been doubled to $100k.

I imagine he can arrange another appearance without having to get hauled in however that's going to be a bad look in court.

For a while I was working on a hip hop crime blog but it may get revived here if everybody goes to jail.

Staying out of jail should be a big part of a rapper's business plan.

Good New for Yung Joc:
Apparently Yung Joc was late and the bail was not doubled as initially reported.

Will Jay-Z Pull a Madonna w/Live Nation?

The NY Times has more on Jay-Z's departure from Def Jam and mentions in passing the possibility of a Madonna-type deal with Live Nation's new Artist Nation division.

Such a possibility makes a lot of sense though Jay-Z seems fairly comfortable overseeing his own interests however they intersect with corporate structures.  Guess the rumor mill will be churning with possibilities of what'$ next.  Of course, he does still have an album or two on the contract for Roc-A-Fella but one step does lead to another.

Update:
Going with Artist Nation does make a huge amount of sense.  Jay-Z's so good at doing Jay-Z that he really just needs structures that support that, not structures for A&R, artist development or anything else that a Jay-Z would not need.

Now that he's gotten an incredibly profitable education at Def Jam, he's got to have a sense of the big picture beyond what most artists ever achieve.  If he combined Artist Nation's services with his own branded entertainment company, he's set to maximize his career as an entertainer while pursuing such projects as J Hotels, the 40/40 Club chain and related business endeavors with other partners and companies.
