Rolling Stone takes a look at the Barack Obama machine, a campaign organization that’s strongly grassroots driven and draws on both Obama’s history and training as a community organizer as well as the bottom-up power of the Internet.
I hadn’t realized how much stronger Obama’s campaign organizing has been than Hillary Clinton’s until I read this Frank Rich piece. The Rolling Stone article breaks down how that came about.
Apparently the Obama campaign hasn’t trumpeted their use of the Internet in order not to be lumped in with Howard Dean but they’ve done a great job of working with folks who got things going on their own and with tying together online support with offline organizing.
On a related note, Jon Favreau is Obama’s chief speechwriter and he’s done quite a fine job. Good reminder that even great speechifying is generally a team effort.
