Scott Storch’s Collapsed Empire, Tipping Point in ’06?

An AP report on Scott Storch’s collapsed empire is attracting a lot of attention at the moment:

"Just a few years ago, Scott Storch was one of the top producers in pop music, living in a $10.5 million mansion on an exclusive Miami island, driving a phalanx of luxury cars and dating the likes of Paris Hilton and Lil Kim."

"Nowadays, Scott Storch, 34, is missing in action. He owes over $500,000 in real estate taxes and had a warrant out for his arrest when he failed to show up in court in a child-support case last month. He has not had a top 10 hit in three years. He still has his waterfront marble mansion, but his lawyer, Guy Spiegelman, says Storch is attempting to refinance it after a ‘catastrophic occurrence this year’ resulting from ‘mismanagement.’"

Two years ago in Rolling Stone things looked good for Mr. Storch:

"Storch is thirty-two, super-rich and draped in the massive self-confidence of a successful producer…He’s cocooned by quite an entourage (five assistants, a team of armed bodyguards, a driver, assorted friends and hangers-on), so there’s always someone nearby, ready to do anything he wants — get some tea, roll up a joint, pull out the Ferrari."

But that portrait is followed by what appears to be the roots of his current demise:

"Storch is in a bit of a foul mood, upset that some of the superstars who are on his résumé are not in his future…Like Christina Aguilera. Storch made seven songs for her most recent album, Stripped, two of them singles, and helped her sell 12 million records worldwide, but he’s not working on her new album, Back to Basics."

"’I told [Christina's people] I needed a private plane to get out to L.A.,’ he says. ‘I had to bring equipment, clothes, my people. You want me to move my life from Miami to L.A. for six months, and you can’t get me a plane to do it? She didn’t go to bat for me. And I truly cared about her as a person and a friend and as an artist.’"

He also talked about not being on Beyonce’s album [not asked] and anticipating not being on Paris Hilton’s [too racy] so, though he seemed to have a lot coming out, two core artists and one huge pr opportunity were turning away.

Oversized lifestyle meets a sudden decline in desire for one’s service?  That’s pop music!

Combine that with mismanagement and/or personal issues and there you are with another episode of Where Are They Now?

Some stupid moves there, let his success go to his head. But I wouldn’t say he’s dead yet. Still talented, just needs to get off the prima donna s*** and get back to making hit records.

  2. playjojo says:

He hooks up with losers like Paris and Brook who have absolutely NO talent, and lives the life of excess. Not to savy, you have to invest well as producing and managing a fickle business.
