Kidz In The Hall Attack Video & the Hazards of Touring

Video of Attack on Double-O by Club Security

I’m still upset about the attack on Double-O of Kidz In The Hall at the Cherry Lounge & Pit in Tempe, AZ by club "security".  Between the aholes who attacked him [video via Miss Info] and the aholes who think it’s funny, you have to start considering the implications for musicians who aren’t macho aholes but who do want to earn a living via music.

A lot of the people who sit around and say artists need to get over rampant downloading and should give all their music away and recoup through touring have never done any kind of tour, much less through the potentially hazardous small venue circuit.  Such attacks may not be the norm but mistreatment of artists is widespread and the touring life remains difficult.

On a positive note, the hazards of touring offer all sorts of possibilities for web entrepreneurs, for example, a site in which musicians review and rate performance venues around the country across musical genres could be a valuable thing if done correctly.  To be perfectly frank, I’d start working on that now if I wasn’t in the middle of working on other things.
