50 Cent has taken up aerobics to lose [likely steroid induced] muscle mass for his upcoming role in Streets of Blood.
You can file this under celebrity trivia or you can note that, though Ice Cube still acts all hard and angry in his music, which doesn't sell as well as it used to, he can also now make big bucks off family feature comedies.
Damn fine timing since 50's music career seems to be on a downturn in the wake of Kanye's stunning triumph in the Soundscan wars.
And a smart acting marketing maneuver as well since the press and general public take it as a high sign of art if you're willing to gain or lose a lot of weight to make it happen.

Plies - Definition Of Real
When I saw this cover art for Plies' Definition Of Real, due June 10th, I thought it was a joke but it's from his MySpace page which also has an ad for a men's "Certified Goon" t-shirt!
For the record, I never thought Lil Wayne's Carter III cover was a joke.

Pizza Party is a hip hop cd for the early childhood set featuring songs by Littleague, aka Neil McIntyre, with production by Improv and a related curriculum that includes characters drawn by Beast:
"So you hear 'Bug Patrol' one week at school," McIntyre explains, "and then you do a whole week's worth of lessons that tie into bugs and learning to respect living things...you play the music and then have them actively listen to it and pick it apart with all kinds of activities — math manipulative, fine motor movement, gross motor."
The curriculum was developed by Larry Georgeson.

There won't be a sales faceoff between G-Unit's Terminate On Sight and The Game's Los Angeles Times/L.A.X. and 50 won't push back The Game's album to privilege G-Unit's release date.
Instead, Interscope has pushed both albums back with G-Unit’s Terminate On Sight due July 1 and The Game’s album, whatever it's called, out July 8.

Check out this fun trailer for the documentary, Lo Lifes: The Story of An American Dream, that doesn't seem to have a release date but was dropped on YouTube 9 months ago.
The Lo-Life story provides some background on the originators of the Million Man Rush while a follow-up interview with Thirstin Howl II talking about a movie coming in 2005 makes me think it's all in limbo.
In any case, the Lo Lifes are an important part of the history of hip hop fashion and street culture and worth checking out.
A bit of nastiness has emerged in the hip hop blogosphere as it intersects with the LA Times via an ill-fated experiment called the LAT Beatbox. Brandon Soderberg gives his insider's account and it appears to link to everything I've seen and much more so you can evaluate this odd tale for yourself.
Not a good look at the moment for Slav Kandyba who has contributed to ProHipHop in the past.
And a bad look for the LA Times who can't seem to get a handle on hip hop [or blogging] despite being smack dab in the middle of the first major hip hop center to emerge after its birth in NYC.

To be honest, I kind of thought we were at the point where all you could really do with a sneaker is cut and paste variations on what has come before but apparently that's still considered a bad thing when you're a famous cutting edge artiste like Mr. Kanye West.
Hey, that's how Kanye['s assistant] blogs as well!
I guess this is a question mark kind of day.
50 Cent tells Mixtape Monday that The Game and G-Unit will not be having an [embarrassing] sales battle [that Game would win]:
"I'mma wait a little, then I'm just gonna push his album back," 50 told us last week of Game's project. "I don't think there's anyone that would legitimately look at him like it's a competition, him versus G-Unit. It just doesn't make sense. I make money every time he releases an album."
Despite his protests, 50 Cent will gladly undermine what could be a decent Game album if he's able without offering anything to match.
Thanks a lot!

Achozen to Premier Deuces April 22nd
RZA, Shavo Odadjian, Kinetic 9 & Reverend William Burke have joined together as Achozen and recorded a self-titled album for release this summer on Shavo's urSESSION digital label:
While RZA, Burke and Kinetic handle most of the vocals and lyrics, George Clinton, Red Hot Chili Peppers' John Frusciante, Wu-Tang affiliate Killah Priest, Wu-Tang founding member GZA, emcee Sick Jacken from Psycho Realm, and rapper Leggezin Fin also appear on the album.
These rock/hip hop connections keep coming from all over. They might actually avoid becoming a subgenre if the range of projects continues to develop as widely as the distance between RZA and Lil Jon.
Achozen will premier Deuces, their first single, on their urSESSION profile on April 22nd.

Ever since Kanye beat 50 Cent it's gotten harder for me to pay much attention to 50's various issues so I don't know if a G-Unit vs The Game sales contest is a new topic of conversation or not but it's definitely feeling a bit tired at the onset.
Good thing for 50 Cent that he's got moves outside of hip hop because he seems to have played all his rap cards and now just keeps reshuffling the deck.
Speaking of "outside of hip hop":
