The guy that invented drank says there’s no connection between drank and "purple drank", one of the names for drinks associated with Houston hip hop whose key ingredient is cough syrup with codeine, even though he claims to be "versed in hip-hop culture" with a company based in Houston that cited DJ Screw as an inspiration in a press release and put out the soda in a purple can.

Oh, and, apparently, he "had befriended various Houston musicians and producers, and he found the laid-back local rap style appealing."

Why is it the lying liars all flock to hip hop?
