ESTILO HIP HOP Documentary Trailer

Trailer for ESTILO HIP HOP Documentary

New Documentary, ESTILO HIP HOP, Reveals the Powerful Role
Hip-Hop Plays in Bringing Social Change to Latin America
:

"ESTILO HIP HOP, a new film by Virgilio Bravo and Loira Limbal, chronicles the emergence of hip-hop in Latin America, its impact on youth culture and the regional politics that underscore its existence. Within the breathtaking landscapes of Brazil, Chile and Cuba, we meet Guerrillero Okulto, Eli Efi and Magia, three performer-activists who believe that hip-hop culture can change the world. ESTILO HIP HOP will have its broadcast premiere on the PBS WORLD series Global Voices, Sunday, June 28, 2009 at 10 PM."

this looks good. i don't know too much about hip hop in the rest of latin america, but anything used to stand up to oppression in those countries is good to me. however, i do have a slight problem with this trailer (i can't say the same for the film- i havn't seen it): i don't think cuba should be lumped together with these highly oppressive countries, & the images of direct oppression and riots in the trailer not specifying, so people may presume these are of cuba. cuba has its problems, and many amazing cuban rappers like los aldeanos, papa humbertico, el discipulo, etc, (i dont know about magia, i havnt heard her) address these problems, but still stand for the principles of socialism in cuba. and rightly so, because compared to the other countries in this video, as well as most in the 3rd world, cuba has a better, more successful model for social justice.
