Seth Godin's ChangeThis manifesto, Brainwashed: Seven Ways to Reinvent Yourself, may be just what you need as the world of jobs, money and security plunges into unknown territory:
"Years ago, when you were about four years old, the system set out to persuade you of something that isn't true."
"Not just persuade, but drill, practice, reinforce, and yes, brainwash."
"The mission: to teach you that you're average. That compliant work is the best way to a reliable living. That creating average stuff for average people, again and again, is a safe and easy way to get what you want."
"Step out of line and the system would nudge (or push) you back to the center. Show signs of real creativity, originality or even genius, and well-meaning parents, teachers and authority figures would eagerly line up to get you back in line."
"Our culture needed compliant workers, people who would contribute without complaint, and we set out to create as many of them as we could."
"And so generations of students turned into generations of cogs, factory workers in search of a sinecure. We were brainwashed into fitting in, and then discovered that the economy wanted people who stood out instead."

Love it. I was driving around and running errands today and I started to think along these same lines. How could anyone be happy to be a corporate minion. Then they let you go (fire you) and your life comes to a screeching halt. A young man told me today that he couldn’t allow me to do a certain thing or “he would get fired”. And that he doesn’t “want to get fired for anyone”. I thought to myself, “Bro, getting fired is probably the best possible thing that could happen to you”. It might change your life in the best way.
Went to see Seth today and he was dynamic.
He just published his new book Linchpin and held an event where you could purchase the book and hear him speak.
Ever since I discovered his work, I have been an evangelist and tell everyone I know to do their research on Youtube, and to buy his books.
Definitely subscribe to his simple teachings and feel the stuff he speaks about applies so much to the music industry!
I’m definitely a serious Seth Godin fan. I’ve learned a lot from him.
Some of his stuff isn’t really direct to me and some seems kind of off-base but the core of it has deeply affected my thinking, even if I don’t show it all the time!
Hopefully gonna write a review and post the pics over at the blog. Hey Clyde long time have not spoke to you, of course you still doing great work over here. Gotta send you an email to give you a brief update on some of the stuff we have been behind over the last few years. Thanks for keeping the information flowing, anyone who does not read this blog is surely missing out on great information and resources!
Thanks for the kind words but I know the site’s not quite what is used to be.
And that’s partly because I’ve had to pull back and that’s included not keeping up with sites like yours, which I always enjoyed and always found good stuff worth posting about when I kept up with it.
Hey, I like the redesign. Since you know when you did it, you have another gauge of how out of touch I’ve been.
