Jay-Z has warned many in his songs not to “Throw rocks at the throne” but it appears that rapper Prodigy didn’t get the memo. In an effort to clarify his comments, Prodigy tried to set the record straight on his thoughts about Jay-Z.
The young artist made mention a few weeks back that Jay “knows the truth, but he chose sides with evil in order to be accepted in the corporate world,” Prodigy writes. “J.Z. conceals the truth from the black community and the world and promotes the lifestyle of the beast instead.”
Those strong words were clarified a bit when he blogged the other day about how he really feels about the president of Roc-A-Fella Records. “Some of that stuff people may have got twisted a little bit,” he said. “I definitely don’t think Jay-Z is in the Illuminati. I don’t know how that got out there. I definitely said some things about his choices that were questionable to me. But as far as Jay-Z in the Illuminati…that’s just speculation and I don’t really deal with too much of that.”
Of course it’s the price that an artist like Jay-Z must pay to be in his position. Of course Jay-Z hasn’t shied away from his lifestyle and instead embraced it in his music. His last album, “The Blueprint 3” approaches the idea that while he’s still the most talented MC in the game, he’s certainly not living the same life that he was many years ago. He makes no bones about his success, or his excess, and instead embraces it as a badge of honor that he’s made it.
Prodigy has certainly gotten Jay-Z’s attention as he’s made mention of him in a number of his songs and none of it has been flattering. Jay-Z certainly doesn’t feel threatened but perhaps Prodigy should. Its ok to throw rocks at the throne, but it’s going to hurt when they get thrown back.
