According to NYMAG.com Beyonce Knowles, noted as “Ms. Carter,” is being sued by Gate Five for bailing on a video game. The lawsuit, which claims that Beyonce was difficult to work with and drove financiers away from a reported dance video game, seeks damages for approximately $100 million. The lawsuit pulls no punches in its attempt to label Beyonce as difficult to work with. The lawsuit states that Beyonce was in a “a bad faith breach of contract so callous that, on what appeared to be a whim, she destroyed Gate Five’s business and drove 70 people into unemployment, the week before Christmas.” It goes further to state that she “made an extortionate demand for entirely new compensation terms she wanted. When her maneuver backfired and drove away the financier (who found Ms. Carter too erratic to do business with), she pulled out of the project in breach of the agreement.” This is clearly a damaging lawsuit if she is found guilty. Of course it would damage her financially if she’s ordered to pay that kind of money, but it could also damage her reputation. Beyonce, who’s been able to spend a long time in the spotlight without taking any direct hits to her reputation, could now take a big one. The Gate Five representative that was interviewed about the lawsuit states that her actions were so callous that even her father couldn’t agree with her behavior. Matthew Knowles was fired last month as Beyonce’s manager. Clearly Beyonce will spend a long time battling this out. NYMAG.com could not reach Beyonce for a comment and it will be interesting to see when she finally does come out with her side. Being the biggest female performer in the world means she has a reputation to protect. This lawsuit could hurt her more than she knows.
