Finally, the clash of the hip-hop kings is here with the upcoming debut of the most anticipated Jay-Z and kanye West album, the Throne. The multi-platinum rappers will perform at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California on October 16, 2011.
The collaboration of Jay-Z and West constitutes nothing less than the biggest hip-hop event of the year. Each has sold millions, recorded some of the most acclaimed records in recent history and inspired countless other artists. It should be fascinating to see what the two talents and longtime collaborators can come up with for their first full-length joint recording, “Watch the Throne,” which is due for wide release on Aug. 12.
The lead single, “Otis,” has already been released to ample praise, with GQ magazine dubbing it, “one of the most purely soulful songs the two have ever made together”. It is described in a press release as “classic Kanye West soul, with the two MCs trading couplets over a sample manipulated the way only West can.”
“Watch the Throne” was recorded at a variety of international locations, including Paris, New York City and Sydney, and features production work from the RZA, the Neptunes and West’s longtime collaborator Mike Dean. Guest vocalists on the project include Frank Ocean and Beyoncé.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Aug. 8 through www.ticketmaster.com. Prices range from $59.50-$149.50 for San Jose, $49.50-$129.50 for Sacramento.
Those who can’t wait that long to snag ducats can visit www.livenation.com/watchthethrone beginning on Thursday, when show tickets bundled with digital copies of the new album will be sold.
