Canadian rapper Drake will be honored with this year’s Allan Slaight Award. He will be presented with the award, which is given to a young person in the country who makes a difference in the fields of sports, innovation, music, literature, film, visual or performing arts in philanthropy. Drake will be given a $10,000 honorarium, which he said would be presented to Dixon Hall, a community-based service that creates opportunities for people in low income neighborhoods around Toronto. “I am a proud Canadian, and I am grateful to Canada’s Walk of Fame and the Slaight Foundation for this award,” Drake told AllHipHop.com in a press release. Drake will receive the $10,000 donation during Canada’s Walk of Fame Awards, which will air on Canadian TV networks Global and Slice.
Canada’s Walk of Fame further announces the 2011 inductees that include seven new inspiring and celebrated Canadians who have excelled in their fields and are a part of Canada’s legacy. Each will receive their tribute on October 1, 2011 at Toronto’s Elgin Theater.
“Each one of our inductees has made their mark on Canada’s colorful landscape and helped define to the world what it means to be Canadian,” said Peter Soumalias, President and Founding Director, Canada’s Walk of Fame. “We are thrilled to honor and celebrate our inductees’ dedication and passion to both their craft and community at this year’s ceremony.”
Joining the 131 existing inductees, the 2011 honorees will be added to Canada’s Walk of Fame, which annually recognizes individuals for their achievements in various fields, including music, sport, film and television, science and innovation, in addition to the arts: literary, visual and performing. Commemorating the 2011 inductees, the Canada’s Walk of Fame Awards will feature special guest performances and celebrity presenters.
