It's Time for Democrats to Start Destroying Republicans

I've been impressed by the Democratic Party's attempts at bipartisanship led by the first U.S. President I've ever called "my President" but the Republicans have made it clear that they aren't having it and it's time to start making them pay for their obstinence and ill will.

I think an important first step would be removing all concessions made to gain bipartisan support for a health care bill and to refocus on the wishes of those who put Obama in office.

Some of my readers may recall that when Ronald Reagan came into office he clearly stated that he was not the President for all Americans, only for those who supported him, and the sheep applauded. Multiple Bush regimes have made it clear that such a perspective is status quo for the Republican Party.

It's time to take off those white dress gloves, President Obama, and lead your people into battle.

Joe "Big Dummy" Wilson Breaks the Rules of His Game and Gets the Smackdown, Yay!

I know what's it like to say something that you strongly believe in ond to then get into in trouble because you said it at the wrong time or in the wrong way according to those who have more power than you.

Nevertheless, given my hatred for the Republican Party, the party of death and destruction, I gotta say that the fact that "Rep. Joe Wilson’s “You lie!” outburst" against Obama led rapidly to donations of "$100,000 from 3,000 people" in less than 24 hours to his 2010 Democratic opponent makes me smile.

I guess the money's talking and it's telling us that the bullsh*t will be walking at the next electoral battle for Joe "Big Dummy" Wilson.

Barack Obama: Standup Comic Takes on Michael Steele

It's great to finally have a President who's truly funny and has truly great writers. For example, at last night's annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner, he had this to say:

The chairman of Republican National Committee, Michael Steele, was "in the house tonight," Obama noted. "Or as he would say, 'In the heezy.'"

"Michael for the last time, the Republican Party does not qualify for a bailout," Obama told Steele. "Rush Limbaugh does not count as a troubled asset, I'm sorry."

The bailout may be somewhat of a scam but this guy is funny! No word on a media industry bailout though he did big up the press. Rumor has it he may kill two birds with one stone and pass a tax on indie blogging and Twitter reportage.

Afroman: Frobama: Head of State Album Art

Afroman: Frobama: Head of State album cover art

Afroman - Frobama: Head of State

Afroman's Frobama: Head of State is due May 12th.

In a typically bassackward Wikipedia move, the Frobama entry has been deleted multiple times including by one "editor" who states:

"Non-notable music by artist with no Wikipedia article"

Doh! Afroman's right here in Wikipedia big dummy!

I briefly investigated editing at Wikipedia but the behind-the-scenes action is even more ridiculous than at the Open Directory where it got pretty foolish at times. That said, the two other deletes may be legit depending on the exact nature of the copyrighted material to which they refer since other Afroman album entries do have text cut and pasted from other web sites.

I'd investigate further but what's the point? It's Wikipedia and no one's in charge!

ColorOfChange: Post-Katrina Shootings, Aid Black Farmers

I want to point to a couple of campaigns currently in progress at ColorOfChange.org that are well worth your consideration and support.

Demand justice in post-Katrina shootings:
"In the weeks following Hurricane Katrina, White vigilantes hunted down Black men who entered Algiers Point and even tried to expel their Black neighbors. Louisiana's broken law enforcement agencies have refused to investigate these crimes."

Demand justice for Black farmers denied USDA aid:
"For decades the U.S. Department of Agriculture discriminated against Black farmers, denying them critical aid. When a technicality prevented many Black farmers from benefiting from an eventual settlement, Barack Obama put forth legislation to ensure all farmers were compensated."

"Obama's actions helped him win over Southern Black members of Congress and gain the support of rural Blacks in the Democratic primaries. Now it looks like the Obama administration may be trying to avoid fairly compensating these Black farmers."

It's still time for change and that ain't gonna change.

Food for Thought: "Stop Jockin' Lincoln"

Adisa Banjoko's Battle Tactics for Presidents' Day

Beginning with quotes from Abraham Lincoln himself, Adisa Banjoko points out that old Abe wasn't against slavery but felt that ending slavery was key to holding the Union together.

That's why Adisa says, "Stop Jockin' Lincoln."

The Arabic Names Project: Hussein/Husayn

Official Portrait of U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama

Official Portrait of U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama

Hussein/Husayn (5-61 Islamic Calendar/624-680 AD) or better: al-Husayn.

It is a common Arabic name, meaning "good looking boy". Historically, Hussein is the second son of Ali and Fatimah, and grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. He is revered by Shi'ites and Sunni Muslims alike. Both sects see his death at the battle in Kerbala, Iraq in the (10th Muharram 680 AD) as a religious holiday.

Many other famous and infamous people have carried the name Hussein. Some of them include Iraqi dictator Sadam Hussein, platinum rapper Hussein Fatal from Tupac's Outlaw Immortals, King Hussein of Jordan and America's newly elected President, Barack Hussein Obama.

For more information on the name Hussein:
The Concise Encyclopedia of Islam by Cyril Glasse

Each week we will discuss another name, its meaning and the people who share it to spread knowledge of the stories behind Arabic names and, in our own small way, help lessen uninformed prejudice against people with such names.

The Arabic Names Project is written by Adisa Banjoko.

Inaugural Ballin' With Barack: DC Gets Ready To Party

Inaugural balls celebrating the inauguration of Barack Obama include a wide range of themes and purposes. Here are some ball announcements featuring hip hop, RnB and urban stars.

The biggest hip hop gathering appears to be the Hip-Hop Inaugural Ball, on January 19th, featuring co-hosts ranging from Russell Simmons, T.I., LL Cool J, and Young Jeezy to Bow Wow and MC Lyte.

The Green Inaugural Ball, taking place on the 17th, features not only Wyclef Jean but also will.i.am., John Legend, Michael Franti and Al Gore.

Rihanna is the big star at the Presidential Inauguration Charity Ball held by Feeding America and the Recording Industry Association of America on January 20th. Guess the RIAA needs some good will.

Rahsaan Patterson and Alyson William are set to perform at a ball organized by Historically Black College and University Alumni on the 19th.

The Lincoln 2.0 Inaugural Ball will feature Anita Baker, Keb' Mo' and John Cruz. This event currently leads ProHipHop's extremely unofficial "Coolest Name for an Inaugural Ball Contest" and takes place January 18th.

Dionne Warwick and Ludacris will host simultaneous events on the 20th as part of the American Music Inaugural Ball, the Legends Ball and the Urban Ball, which Jalen Rose will attend as well as hosting Rock The Ball for Barack featuring NBA stars. I hope I got that right, it's kind of complicated!

The Stylistics featuring Russell Thompkins, Jr. will perform on the 19th at a gala held at the French Embassy by the National Black Chamber of Commerce and the National Newspaper Publishers Association Foundation.

On a down note, Louis Gossett Jr. has withdrawn from the Inaugural Purple Ball, scheduled for January 20th, "citing a lack of diversity and inclusion on the host committee and with the entertainment". He has also withdrawn the involvement of his Eracism Foundation, an especially strong statement given that the Foundation was to be the beneficiary of the event.

This edition of Inaugural Ballin' With Barack was brought to you by the combined forces of Hip Hop Press, RnB Press and Urban Arts & Fashion Press. I think they call it a trifecta!

You can get your press releases up at one or more of these sites without having to go through PR Newswire or other expensive services. Just head over to Hip Hop PR Wire and submit your press release!

Barack Obama on Newsweek: The New Global Elite

Most of the Barack covers I've posted have been on hip hop magazines but I like this Newsweek cover for their upcoming issue:

"In the December 29, 2008-January 5, 2009 double issue of Newsweek (on newsstands Monday, December 22), 'The New Global Elite,' correspondents from around the world compile the first ever list of the world's 50 most powerful people and explore their importance in the world today."

Barack Hussein Obama: Say It With Me Now!

I propose that we, including you, initiate a process of desensitizing the American public to the dreaded sight and sound of Arabic names by finding as many different highly visible ways to use them over and over again until everyone is so sick of hearing them that the next time someone tries to insinuate that someone is a terrorist due to their Arabic name even hardcore Republicans and ex-Gitmo guards will double over in laughter.

Seriously.

I'm Still High on Obama

I've been thinking a lot about Barack Obama lately which suddenly puts me in the mainstream of society.  Incredible.

The thrill of this victory has not worn down one bit.  I'm just realizing that this has rocked my being on every level at least as much as did the '89 earthquake in San Francisco.  But this one doesn't scare me at all!

As an anarchist, I should be ashamed of myself but, for the first time in my life, I love my President. And Barack Obama is already President as far as I'm concerned

George W. Bush has become the epitome of the lame duck.

Quack, quack, motherf*cker.

Our Stories: Barack Obama Tales at ColorofChange.org

ColorofChange.org has posted Our stories: Obama '08 with an interactive map that allows you to check for stories from folks in particular areas.

I quickly found some powerful tales from people here in my hometown who worked in Civil Rights and have been waiting for this for a long time.  They cut right through any cynical defenses I might have thrown up.

I won't lie.  I'm crying right now.
