Eminem's now 7 week run at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart is starting to challenge some big predecessors:

"Recovery" also notches the most weeks at No. 1 for a male artist's album since Usher's "Confessions" earned nine weeks in the top slot in 2004, and the most for a hip-hop effort since OutKast's "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" did seven in late 2003 and early 2004.

Albums: Eminem Still Winning, M.I.A.’s MAYA #9

Eminem's still no. 1, Drake slips to 3 but M.I.A.'s the big news in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Her album, MAYA, debuts at no. 9 with only 28k units moved, 1,000 less than Kala which only made it to no. 18.

Do you see it yet?* The emerging opportunity that waits for interesting acts who ignore the "album is dead" bullsh*t and properly exploit the overall dip in sales? Oh, I forgot, you're too busy with your 17th mixtape to get that debut studio album out. I understand. How's that going for you? lol

At this point, the odds are about even that your mixtape or your album will do anything. Play the mixtape game but keep that in perspective. If you can't appear everywhere, like Lil Wayne, or put out a message that shakes well-known rappers and draws attention, like 50 Cent, there's a limited ROI on that investment.
