Promo for GROOVALOO Hip Hop Dance Theater
I saw a YouTube promo for GROOVALOO: Freestyle aka GROOVALOO, opening at NY's Union Square Theatre December 1st for a five week run, and realized I hadn't posted the earlier promo above that gives one a good sense of the overall show. At least, I'm assuming it's the same show. Once again, inconsistent use of a name is confusing.

Shane Sparks' Dance Stylz
CodeBlack Entertainment and The Dance Insider have joined forces to release the Shane Sparks' Dance Stylz DVD on December 1st, the first in a series of:

Shane Sparks - Hip Hop Choreographer
I recently did a brief interview with Shane Sparks, hot shot hip hop choreographer, former judge and recurring choreographer for So You Think You Can Dance and current judge on Ameria's Best Dance Crew.
I asked him a handful of questions that a dancer might particularly be interested in and closed with one about his current duties on America's Best Dance Crew.
1. What or who inspired you to become a professional dancer and make a commitment to a career in dance?
The movie "Breakin'" inspired me to pursue my dance career. That movie was the first time I realized that street dancing could be more than just something we did on the streets.
2. Did you always consider yourself a choreographer as well or was there another transformation that had to occur?
I have always been a creative person, but dancing was my first love. It wasn't until one of my group members went away to join the armed services and left me and my other group member, Chris, to basically provide for ourselves. It was then, that my creative mind went to work and I never looked back. It wasn't until I moved to Los Angeles, that I decided to make it into a career.
3. What was your most meaningful experience as a dancer?
My most meaningful experience as a dancer was went I met Poppin' Taco from the movie "Breakin'." I'll never forget it!
4. If different, what was your most meaningful experience as a choreographer?
When I choreographed " You Got Served." That movie changed my life!!
5. What advice do you have for young dancers considering a professional career?
Study hard. Train as much as you can. Know that you have a purpose. Know that purpose and don't let anyone or anything stop you. Always take time to talk to other people and search for knowledge.
6. What advice do you have for professional dancers seeking to become professional choreographers?
When creating, step out of the box. Do you and be different. Set the tone by changing the game.
7. What's the toughest part of judging a contest like America's Best Dance Crew?
Being able to give the best advice when a crew is struggling to stay in the game.
Mr. Sparks teaches at the Millenium Dance Complex in North Hollywood and is currently choreographing a tour version of the Broadway musical Dreamgirls that will debut at the Apollo in NYC in November.

The Rock Steady Crew 32nd Anniversary schedule, running from July 22nd to 26th in New York and New Jersey, is up at Ill Moves and it looks like a great time with dance workshops and battles as well as a free concert featuring Biz Markie, Grand Puba, Roxanne Shante, Cormega, U-God, Sean Price, DJ Premier, Bishop Lamont, Masta Ace & Edo. G, Dujeous and Tanya Morgan.
