Drake Forced To Cancel Concert After Uncle’s Death

Drake was supposed to perform at Universal Studios Summer Concert series that was supposed to take place on July 16th in Orlando, Florida. Due to his uncle’s death, he was forced to cancel the said concert.

Young Drake and his representatives apologized to fans in a written statement and thanked the officials at Universal as well.

“We regret to announce that Drake will not be able to take the stage at Universal Orlando Resort due to a death in the family,” a rep for Drake said in a statement released today. “He hopes that his fans understand the situation he finds himself in and know that he fully intends to return to the area in the future. He thanks Universal Orlando Resort and his fans for their continued support.”

The death of Drake’s uncle marks the second time a Young Money Records artist has lost a family member, in less than a month.

On July 4th, Nicki Minaj’s cousin Nicholas Telemaque was gunned down in Brooklyn, New York.

Camu Tao’s King Of Hearts to be Released Posthumously

Camu Tao: a playlist by Definitive Jux

Though El-P announced that Def Jux was going on hiatus back in February, he still had some projects to attend to and I'm glad to see he's followed through with the posthumous release of Camu Tao's King of Hearts. It's a joint release with Fat Possum set for August 17th.

El-P also wrote a personal statement about Camu Tao that I've included with the press release at Hip Hop Press. Given what a hard ass persona El-P generally presents, it's nice to see him showing that he has a heart with this moving statement.

He's also releasing a free download of Forever Frozen In Television Time by Central Services aka Camu Tao and El-P.

Big ups to all involved.

Roc Raida Passes

DJ Roc Raida of The X-Ecutioners, who began dj’ing in the early ’80s at the age of 10, passed suddenly this weekend.

I hope these cats are getting real interviews before they pass. Men like Roc Raida take a lot of history with them.
