David Carradine Dead at 72

David Carradine is said to have been found dead in his hotel room in Bangkok, where he was filming a new movie, apparently having hung himself in an act of suicide.

I know he had little to do with hip hop but, as Kwai Chang Caine in Kung Fu, Carradine was an icon of my youth and I was glad to see him reupped in Kill Bill 2.

From Season One, Episode 5, The Soul Is the Warrior:

'Will not the soul, too, see nothing when death blinks its eye?' - Caine
'No. The soul sees always.' - Kan
'Yet the body dies.' - Caine
'Does the sun die?' - Kan
'It does not shine at night.' - Caine
'It shines somewhere. You do not see it.'" - Master Kan

Ron Asheton Passes

The Stooges - I Wanna Be Your Dog
(Live in Serbia,
2004, w/Ron Asheton on guitar, Mike Watt on bass)

Though a bit off-topic for ProHipHip, Stooges' guitarist Ron Asheton passed away this week at the age of 60, and he will be missed.

I didn't keep up closely with his post-Stooges career but, for me, their first album, The Stooges, is just an awesome piece of art (and one of my all time favorite rock albums) that relies greatly on Ron Asheton's sound.

By the way, pretty much every critic I've read says their second album, Fun House, was their best.  But that's nonsense and one of the many reasons I stopped reading music critics long ago.  The Stooges was the pure sh*t, even We Will Fall.

Mike Watt shares his memories of Ron Asheton, with whom he was fortunate enough to play.  Given the tragic loss of D. Boon, this must be really hard on him.
