Jesse Abraham Nominated For 2 Underground Music Awards and Only YOU Can Help Him Win

Fresh off the release of his critically acclaimed debut album, NYC’s Jesse Abraham rubs shoulders with hip-hop legends in two categories at the 2011 UMA’s.

The Underground Music Awards, presented by Urban Threshold, are considered to be the Grammy’s of the independent urban music world. The nominees are carefully chosen by a committee and are recognized on a national level, as the world of American independent music ranges from the unknown to the renowned. The winners, however, are decided based on online votes.

Jesse is up for Lyricist Of The Year (vote here: http://bit.ly/oJkTw0) as well as for Album Of The Year (vote here: http://bit.ly/nXNyRq), two of the awards show’s more prestigious categories.

Voting is free and does not require a subscription or sign-up.
Fans can vote once every 24 hours up until August 11th.

Jesse Abraham was born in Manhattan as the first child to two public school teachers, and he now resides in Brooklyn where he runs a tutoring company while continuing his ascension as a hip-hop artist. His debut full-length project, One Day, was released in June 2011, but it was in the summer of 2009 when Abraham began to attract considerable attention on the open-mic circuit for his freestyle abilities and live stage show.

The project’s lead single, ‘Spiderman on Vitamins’, made major waves throughout the online world of music, peaking at #3 on DJBooth’s Top 10 Singles chart and #7 on the nationwide college hip-hop charts. The album itself debuted at #5 on DJBooth’s Top 10 Charts, and features the single ‘Always & Forever ft. Homeboy Sandman’, which premiered on XXLMag.com.

Known throughout the indie hip-hop scene in New York as a tireless beacon of creativity, Abraham has expressed his feelings of citywide unity towards his accomplishments. “One of the things I value most about making music is the community of which I am fortunate enough to be a part,” Jesse explains. “When I found out I was nominated in two categories at the UMA’s this year, I immediately viewed it as a victory for the NYC hip-hop scene and all indie artists such as myself. I am humbled & grateful (if not mystified & confused) to be recognized amongst the ranks of true hip-hop legends.”

Funkmaster Flex to Promote US Marine Corps

Funkmaster Flex with Marines album cover art

Funkmaster Flex with Marines (PRNewsFoto/MTV2)

Funkmaster Flex is helping the US Marine Corps market to potential recruits using both his MTV2 show, Funk Flex Full Throttle, and his Custom Car and Bike Show Tour. The focus will be on a special episode in which a group of Marines will work with Funkmaster Flex on a custom auto that will then be displayed at the USMC recuitment booth on the car show tour.

I think that's a pretty good match and I would not be at all surprised if it was an incredibly excellent match. However, that is the worst graphic I think I've seen to date distributed through PR Newswire which is not cheap. I know times are tough but why would MTV2 put out something that makes them look like they're working on a shoestring? That's simply embarrassing.

El-P – Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3

El-P's Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3 is due August 3rd and will also be available in Vinyl and MP3 formats.

"As the album title implies, EL-P creates a dark, dystopian sonic universe filled with ominous basslines and thumping, punishing drums. Comprised of original instrumentals as well as remix instrumentals to Kidz in the Hall's "Driving Down the Block" and Young Jeezy's "I Got This," Weareallgointoburninhellmegamixxx3 represents songs that were meticulously crafted yet never found a home on a proper release."

"While sonically different from J Dilla's instrumental masterpiece Donuts, that album would prove inspirational to EL-P. "Like Donuts, I wanted to keep things short and to the point. I think that's an aspect of instrumental music that so many more people can relate to. I didn't want anyone to listen to this record and at any point get bored.""

Madlib: Medicine Show No. 6: Brain Wreck Show

Madlib Medicine Show No. 6 Brain Wreck Show album cover art

Madlib – Medicine Show No. 6: Brain Wreck Show

Madlib's Medicine Show No. 6: Brain Wreck Show is due June 22nd for mass cd release:

"Madlib follows History of the Loop Digga: 1990-2000 with the sixth installment in his Madlib Medicine Show, his psych-prog-avante-freak-out-funk rock mix Brain Wreck Show. Madlib s been pegged as a jazz guy as far back as 2000, when he as his alter ego Quasimoto released the song "Jazz Cats." His releases with the fictional "jazz group" Yesterdays New Quintet didn't help matters. But, no matter how many jazz records are thrust at him by money-hungry record dealers, he most often at least lately gravitates to the rock side of the spectrum. That's late 60s to late 70s psych-prog-avante-freak-out-funk rock mind you; from the Tropicalia of Brasil to the Krautrock of Germany to the fuzzy sonds of mid 70s Nigeria, the Beat Konducta's rock tastes know no cultural bounds. Actually, we're not sure if they know any bounds."

"This an introductory mix entitled the Brain Wreck Show (admission, he wrote on the CD master, "One Brainticket" an homage to one of his favorite Krautrock bands) should serve to give its listeners a delightfully freaky funked up experience into the rock side of Madlib's collecting conscious. We're glad you re along for the ride. The Madlib Medicine Show series is a combination of Madlib's new hip-hop productions, remixes, beat tapes, and jazz, as well as mixtapes of funk, soul, Brazilian, psych, jazz and other undefined forms of music from the Beat Konducta's 4-ton stack of vinyl."
