Wyclef Jean and RITZ are teaming up for a commercial featuring Wyclef's song '17' (Marching Band Remix).

Read the whole corporate account at Hip Hop Press including Wyclef's recipe for "Island Black Bean Hummus Toppers".

I guess all that Haiti drama isn't holding back his mainstream cachet.  At least, not for RITZ!

Coke’s Partnership w/106 & Park Misses the Diverse Following of Black Entertainers

According to a recent press release from Coca-Cola, kids can upload videos at bet.com/mycokerewards answering the question "What's Your Formula?" to reveal "how they express themselves and what makes them unique".

That sounds nice but I'm a little puzzled by their assumption that only "African American Teens" watch 106 & Park. I thought it was black entertainment for all the children [plus quite a few older folks]. Know what I mean?

If you're not sure why this matters, consider the fact that many big corporations only spend ad dollars on black entertainers when they're going after a black demographic so those entertainers don't get the dollars that go to bigger, broader campaigns.  That may not be what's happening here, i.e., Coke may just be trying to do some positive outreach to black kids and that's great.  But it also reveals assumptions that continue to marginalize black artists when it's time to get that endorsement money.

The commercial will begin airing on Monday, June 1."

And there's a nice product placement for the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones as well.

Blokhedz: Thinking of a Master Plan Premier @ Mission G

Blokhedz: Thinking of a Master Plan

Blokhedz, an animated feature based on the graphic novel, recently released its premier episode with Talib Kweli as Young Blak, Affion Crockett as Flash and Bobbito Garcia as Eatho.

The show appears on Gatorade's Mission G site which does a nice job of not hitting one over the head with branding despite it's branded nature.

Good look for everyone involved!
