J. Cole Recollects Jay-Z’s Advice About Starting His Career

J. Cole

No doubt that J. Cole gained success in the world of hip-hop music. With a platinum single, a gold record, and a Grammy nomination, the famed rapper was already placed as one of 2012’s most talented performers. Recently, he talked about what it took him to get where he is now. He also recalled how his boss Jay-Z advised him on his path to success.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, the American emcee spoke about his several accomplishments in the industry. He stated, “I’m grateful for everything that happened, but I’m not satisfied. There [are] still accomplishments that keep happening from the work that I put in last year and from the last two, three years…but those are just reminders of the work that I did. That’s in the past. Like, what’s the next move? That’s my mind state.”

J. Cole added that his quest for success was guided by Jay-Z’s wisdom. He enthused, “Early in my album process [Jay-Z] was like, ‘When you’re first starting out, it’s good to not know everything.’ He made the analogy that when you’re first starting it’s almost like you’re trying to get across a room, but the room is pitch-black, and when you finally get to the other side of the room and you flick on the light, you look back and you realize there were snakes over here, there was a hole over there…but because you were following your heart, you made the right decision.”

The Roc Nation rapper also admitted that Jay-Z allowed him to do it his way and him figure out things. “He let me figure it out, and it feels better to win like that,” J. Cole added.

Jay-Z Reopens NYC’s 40/40 Club

Hip-hop mogul, Jay-Z made his first public appearance after welcoming his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter in celebrating the grand reopening of his New York sports bar, 40/40. Jay-Z’s guests for the night include billionaire Warren Buffett, singer Ashanti, Russell Simmons, director Spike Lee, record producer Irv Gotti , rapper Wale, The Roots star ?uestlove, Steve Stoute, Kevin Liles, and New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia.

The stars came out and walked the red carpet before entering the redesigned sports bar. Wale spoke in a interview, “We here at the reopening of the 40/40; we about to have a couple of drinks, a lot of beautiful women, New York City, the new joint — you already know”.

The 40/40 club closed last summer to undergo renovations and is now back to operation with and enhanced image. Jay-Z’s baby Blue Ivy was the hot topic of the night. Ashanti couldn’t be happier for the new parents, but when asked if she had caught a bit of a baby fever herself, she boisterously smiled and said, “Oh no, boo-boo, no baby over here. I say it enough in my records”.

Irv Gotti, a father of three shared some fatherly advice with his friend Jay-Z, and he breezed past the carpet trying to dodge reporters and flashing lights but he did stop to give Gotti some love, and made a beeline for the 40/40 doors to get the party started.

Jay-Z Talks about J.Cole’s Grammy Nomination

Jay-Z

2011 has proven to be a great year for mainstream newcomer J.Cole. From grabbing a nod at the Grammy Awards up to being able to have his own debut LP, this Roc Nation rapper definitely has some promise in his hands.

Jay-Z, J.Cole’s boss, recently gave his thoughts to MTV about his man’s Grammy nomination for the Best New Artist category. Jay-Z expressed his joy and delight as Cole received the nomination this early in his Hip Hop career. He added that even if J.Cole does not actually bring home the award, it would be as if he has already won it due to the success that follows his debut album, “Cole World: The Sideline Story,” that has already reached gold certification for selling more than 500,000 copies. Jay-Z also stated that J.Cole absolutely deserves to get the credits and respects from the world of hip hop because of his innate talent, determination and continual growth as an artist.

Jay-Z personally believes that being nominated in the Grammy’s is something that J.Cole needs to reinforce his significance in the industry. “I think it’s great for him, because I’m sure it’s a dream of his,” Jay-Z said. He also added bits about his personal insights on the milestones that J.Cole is reaching one by one: “We grew up seeing Michael Jackson, and I’m sure he grew up seeing whatever moment stuck in his mind, so I know it’s great for him to do that. I think he’s already won Best New Artist, to me. His journey is what I’m really excited about…whether he was nominated or not, he was the best new artist to me; sold 200-and-something-thousand records in his first week; he was the best new artist. I’m sure it’s great for him.”

Jay-Z believes that the continuous artist-development process, such as what J.Cole had gone through until he realized success, should be preserved for the future generations.

Jay-Z’s “Occupy All Streets” Tees, Back on Rocawear

Jay-Z
Jay-Z’s clothing line, Rocawear, pulled off its “Occupy All Streets” t-shirts last Saturday allegedly after the rap artist received a barrage of backlash. It was reported that the revenue of the $22 statement tee will not go to the Occupy Wall Street movement, causing an adverse reaction from its supporters.

However, the company released a statement before pulling out the T-shirt from its sales rack a day after it started selling.

According to Rocawear: “The “Occupy All Streets’ T shirt was created in support of the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement. Rocawear strongly encourages all forms of constructive expression, whether it be artistic, political or social. ‘Occupy All Streets’ is our way of reminding people that there is change to be made everywhere, not just on Wall Street. At this time we have not made an official commitment to monetarily support the movement.”

This, understandably, made the people angry. The supporters saw this as Jay-Z’s way of becoming richer by consigning the sentiments of the ‘Occupy Wall Street’ movement, without giving anything back.

This is a sentiment shared by many of the anti-corporate movement organizers. One of them stated: “Jay-Z, as talented as he is, has the political sensibility of a hood rat and is a scrotum. To attempt to profit off the first important social moment of 50 years with an overpriced piece of cotton is an insult to the fight for economic civil rights known as #occupywallstreet.”
Now, the shirts are back on the Rocawear website after a massive new batch was printed. As it turns out, the clothing line just scrapped the t-shirt from its website after being sold out. The “Occupy All Streets” tees were sold out after Jay-Z’s photograph wearing the shirt hit the net.

“Watch the Throne” Title Significant To Hip Hop Culture, Explains Jay-Z

Pre-sale tickets for the Watch the Throne tour are being snapped up left and right and the start of this partnership between hip hop collaborators Jay-Z and Kanye West draws ever closer. Still, many wonder what the title means, and Jay-Z was eager to explain the importance of the name.

Jay-Z said that this collaboration is expected to help uphold the hip hop culture. In a recent interview with Lorenzo Thomas on 99 Jamz, the 32-year old rapper says that he doesn’t bend over to popular trends when planning his next project. He emphasized that sustaining hip hop culture shouldn’t need more than a simple sales strategy. “No super over-the-top, big singing chorus or anything,” he said. “That’s how we launched our album. And it’s good that it’s been embraced the way it has.”

Jay-Z says the daring title is a means of asserting the influence of hip hop culture on society as a whole. As such, the Grammy Award-winning hitmaker maintains a conscious awareness of his authority as hip hop trendsetter and how that can influence people. With much confidence, he stated that while in previous decades the music of the youth was rock and roll, hip hop has gradually taken that place.

What “Watch the Throne” means is just that: hip hop music may be at the top of the youth’s minds but something else can easily replace it. By making sure that the hip hop industry continues to put out the best product – one that can compete with the rise of dance music and indie music – it can be assured that it remains relevant to the current generation of youths.

Apparently, the reason behind Jay-Z’s success is his massive interest and participation in various business ventures, including a partnership with Diageo’s Ciroc vodka business. Steve Stoute, the chief of branding firm Translation and author of The Tanning of America declared that Jay-Z – in addition to his other hip hop compatriots – is a trusted hip hop ambassador. “They bring the art form around the world, [and have taken everything] to the next level.” Surely, that’s the reason they’re among the top three.

According to news sources in London, Jay-Z is planning to open a 40/40 establishment in London within the next year. As part of this business deal, he will be partnering up with England soccer star Ashley Cole. This is the first business partnership between Jay-Z and Cole.

This multi-million dollar deal was put together by NVA Entertainment Group, which is an entertainment and management company based out of London. Cole has stated that he is happy to be working with Jay-Z on this deal because he grew up listening to his music.

The location of the establishment has not been determined but has been narrowed down to three choices. The final decision is expected to be made by next month.
According to Jay-Z, he is very excited about the new business deal to bring 40/40 to London. He stated that London is a great city and location for the new establishment.
