I'd missed out on this commercial for Rhapsody but was alerted by Oliver Wang's Blueprint 3 review on NPR that it existed and, look, there it is!
I love the concept of a Jay-Z photo shoot in which he runs through a series of moments based on his album covers. It's smart because it works for those who know what they're looking at but also for new fans since they can appreciate the commercial without knowing the background and then get drawn in deeper when and if they find out what's up.
But the fact that I didn't pick up on this is reminder that I need to plug back into a group of blogs with which I've lost touch as I focus on rebuilding ProHipHop after a rather down period.
In particular, I'm currently thinking of:
Notes from a Different Kitchen
This is not to say that they all would have run this particular bit of content or that they're the only great blogs with which I've lost touch. I'm partly saying that they're all worth following and if I was on my game, you'd see a lot more links out to such folks since they all pick up on certain content before it makes its way into my current news gathering system. But I'm also saying that I simply regret losing touch with their fine work.
Note: Oliver Wang was a big time hip hop blogger just a few years back but now he mostly blogs at Soul Sides. I found out about his review on NPR from an old friend, John Dancy-Jones, who was driving around when it came on and immediately called me!
The initial dates for Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 College Arena Tour, or whatever it's going to be called, have been released. Jay-Z Fan Club members have already gotten access to presales and tickets will be able to the general public via Live Nation beginning September 11, the day of Jay-Z's Madison Square Garden show. More stops to be announced.

Jay-Z makes the cover of Billboard along with a profile article about the business of Jay-Z and Roc Nation as a wave of Blueprint 3 publicity starts to hit.

This is getting a little old (and the video feels a bit padded) but I still love those sections he warbles.

Clearing up some confusion but perhaps creating more, Billboard reports that "numerous sources have confirmed" that Jay-Z will drop his next album, Blueprint 3, on 9/11, a Friday, on "Roc Nation with distribution through Atlantic Records."
If correct, now we know what's up with his next album, though not what follows and not why he chose September 11th, a day fraught with added significance to New Yorkers over all folks.
I jokingly wondered out loud if Jay-Z's decision would be "officially announced via Twitter or a Vibe Top 50 blog" and it turns out that both are cited by Billboard:
"Sam Crespo, VP of Rap Promotions at Atlantic Records who goes by the twitter name TheCrespo, first confirmed the news in a Twitter posting yesterday afternoon. The post was removed hours later. A MissInfo.tv blog posting also revealed the details but was subsequently removed."
That must have been a wild evening:

Lots of DJ Hero news hitting the web in the wake of the release of Numark's SCRATCH DECK images for Scratch: The Ultimate DJ.
The above trailer, via Crate Kings who found it profoundly underwhelming, suggests a pop/dance demographic.
Kotaku has screenshots featuring DJ Shadow or a futuristic, cyborg replica.
And Jay-Z and Eminem [via WoooHa] are in on the marketing action:
"A limited edition comes with the rappers' exclusive new greatest-hits CDs, possibly including previously unreleased tracks, plus an advanced version of the controller, a DJ stand and metal traveling case. Jay-Z and Eminem will serve as consultants to Activision and the game's developer, FreeStyleGames."
DJ Hero will include a wide range of music and possible uses:
"In addition to single-DJ action, two players can compete or play cooperatively. Special mixes will let players use the Guitar Hero controller. The game spans hip-hop, electronica, R&B, soul and pop/rock with songs by 50 Cent, Beastie Boys, KRS-One, Blondie, N.E.R.D., Gorillaz and David Bowie. Superstar DJs such as DJ Shadow, DJ Z-Trip and DJ AM will contribute, too."

Sources/rumors at both Hits Daily Double [via DJ Semtex] and Billboard have Jay-Z and/or Roc Nation negotiating some sort of deal with Sony.
