ArtistForce recently launched featuring "self-service booking tools for independent artists." They also have partnered with Celebrity Access for TourIntel:
"Access thousands of reports to analyze and compare touring artists, North American venues, theatrical productions and other live entertainment events. Tourintel provides new details for each show and a unique new way to view, interact and tailor the information for your needs."
Sounds interesting and potentially very useful. I don't know anybody testing this stuff. Most of what I see from music industry bloggers are pretend reviews that just list the features as if every time you read a features list that's what you'd actually get from the site!
I think there's a real opportunity for a blogger who knows how to communicate and can connect with working artists testing and reviewing these services. There's a real sweet spot for people that can communicate with and about both the entertainment and tech industries without disrespecting either because there's actually very little of that on the web.
If you know anybody doing that, drop me a link in the comments, but if they're just listing features as I describe above, get set to be made fun of! All for the greater good, of course.

If you’re an indie, diy hip hop (or related) artist, you owe it to yourself to check out Audible Hype, if you haven’t yet. And, if it’s been awhile, the site is in the midst of a reconstruction project and your input is encouraged. Go tell Justin Boland what you need and you might just get it.
Already up is a links feed linking out to music industry insights on other sites. If you’re really about your biz, that alone is a pretty nice feature.

Peter Cashmore shares the tale of How He Grew Mashable:
"Founded in 2005 as a one-writer blog, Mashable has now grown to include a staff of more than 30 people and has become a well-known source of great content and great events…In this interview, our CEO discusses Mashable’s origins and how he’s managed to scale his small business into a thriving player in the larger world of technology and media."
I haven't gotten a chance to watch this multi-part video yet but I am very curious about what he reveals.

The Archivist allows you to create an archive of tweets on a particular subject and analyze those archives in various ways. Seems useful both for studying Twitter and for keeping up with and analyzing one's presence or that of competitors.
Here's an archive of DJ Shadow-related tweets as an example of an archive made public.
The Archivist is a product of MIX Online Labs.

CASH Music is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Our software will provide a set of open source applications that will provide musicians the ability to communicate, promote and sell products directly to their audience. We want our software and engineers to set the pace and provide an alternative to the media giants.
Sustainability for artists is the goal, and an open source solution gives musicians and coders the power to build solutions together. We can’t rely on Facebook, the RIAA, or even Apple to invent a new model that works with the best interests of artists in mind. Let's create those models together.
Cool!

Audible Hype's Justin Boland shows that you can go by a bunch of different names, blog when it suits you and still get a feature in Boing Boing:
"In the past 5 years, probably 90% of what I learned became obsolete. I really studied up on the music industry, and now in 2010 almost none of that matters."
"The only numbers we need to focus on are internal. The only asset that we have is our community of fans. We're creating unique space, so instead of modeling what "The Industry" is doing, now we're focused on communication and experiments."
"We're big believers in the Bandcamp platform, we've started working with Fairtilizer, and thanks to the coding talent of Charles Choiniere, we've also got a custom CMS and music management system built into the World Around Records website. That's been a huge advantage…"
"Artists have to be in control of their own data, their own music players, their own email list. Getting 100,000 downloads means nothing if you don't know who those people are."
