Director Brett Ratner: Shooter Series: Volume 1
The Director Brett Ratner: Shooter Series: Volume 1 DVD was released September 15th on Genius Products. I received a review copy but lost track of it so here's some superficial info about why it looks worth checking out!
The DVD has more than a bunch of music videos ranging from Mariah Carey to Public Enemy to Foxy Brown including LL Cool J's Pink Cookies In A Plastic Bag Getting Crushed By Buildings. It also has Ratner directed commercials and PSAs, films made at NYU, home movies and an auto-documentary. Plus a nice little 32 page artsy book.

Brick By Brick, by Khari Mateen featuring Dice Raw, is presented here in a music video/trailer for Brick City, a powerful looking Sundance Channel documentary series focused on community issues in Newark, New Jersey.

According to the official announcement:
"The President of the United States Barack Obama will be the third guest featured in the television special Get Schooled: You Have the Right...The 30-minute documentary highlights the education challenges, life choices and breakthroughs experienced by speechwriter Sarah Hurwitz, music director Jason Halbert and marketing executive Latesha Williams – three professionals who provide critical support to these leading figures in politics, entertainment and sports. As announced on Aug. 13, pop superstar Kelly Clarkson and 2009 NBA MVP LeBron James will also appear in the show. Get Schooled: You Have the Right premieres Sept. 8 at 8 p.m."

Eminem's Beautiful Video Features Detroit Landmarks
Detroit, the town recently designated "Dirtiest U.S. City" has a sentimental advocate in Eminem who shot Beautiful, his most recent video, there featuring Detroit landmarks:
"The video was filmed at noted Detroit landmarks, now past their prime though in many ways now more iconic than ever. Through locations such as the once-grand Beaux-Arts train station (Michigan Central Station, which was built in 1913), the original Tiger Stadium (built in 1912), and the old Packard Motor Car Company plant (established in 1903), the viewer sees both Detroit's grand past and very real present, and Eminem finds in Detroit a new metaphor for the lyrical content of the song."
'"Tiger Stadium is being torn down, and the train station is supposed to be demolished too. This video is one of the last times anybody outside of Detroit is going to see them," commented Eminem. "I wrote 'Beautiful' when I was really down, during a difficult time struggling with my addiction. It's a reminder to keep your head up, and to see who you really are despite what you may be going through. Now that I've gotten through the toughest part, I see how the song relates to Detroit, and it feels even more powerful to me."'

Yes, gazillion is the technical term for too many stars to count. I was checking out this press release for the BET Awards '09 and couldn't really decide what angle to feature in the headline for such a show. I could call it a stop on the Young Money Tour. Or I could speculate about whether or not Queen Latifah will rap or T-Pain will give up his vocoder or Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige will partner up. But there's just too many angles to choose one:

The Black Eyed Peas Score Their First #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 Chart
According to a recent press release from Coca-Cola, kids can upload videos at bet.com/mycokerewards answering the question "What's Your Formula?" to reveal "how they express themselves and what makes them unique".
That sounds nice but I'm a little puzzled by their assumption that only "African American Teens" watch 106 & Park. I thought it was black entertainment for all the children [plus quite a few older folks]. Know what I mean?
If you're not sure why this matters, consider the fact that many big corporations only spend ad dollars on black entertainers when they're going after a black demographic so those entertainers don't get the dollars that go to bigger, broader campaigns. That may not be what's happening here, i.e., Coke may just be trying to do some positive outreach to black kids and that's great. But it also reveals assumptions that continue to marginalize black artists when it's time to get that endorsement money.

Mashable's Pete Cashmore found that bootlegging fans were streaming the MTV Movie Awards on the Web by pointing a camera at their tv and using online streaming services:
"Despite the drawbacks, there are at least two reasons these feeds take off: limited access to these shows globally and a chance to chat about the show with web friends in real-time. If you weren’t able to tune in to the UK screening of Britain’s Got Talent, for instance, there was a popular livestream on Justin.tv."
This phenomenon isn't limited to the Awards and is reminiscent of the tradition of shaky handheld videotaped bootleg versions of movies that are made in theaters. So, despite their low quality, this approach is probably just going to get bigger and raise mo' problems for big media on the global stage.
